Algoma en plein air

a painting workshop in oils and acrylics with
John Stuart Pryce

September 14 to 19, 2011

John Stuart Pryce demonstrates at Pig Pen Chutes on the Mississagi River, September 2010

The finished painting

"The purest and most rewarding form of painting, in my opinion, is "en plein air" as it challenges all of the skills and discipline of the artist."

"The quest for eloquence in my painting is ongoing. Strong design elements, an appropriately chosen colour palette, spontaneous brush work and underlying luminosity, are key elements that allow me to share with others what I see and feel."   A playwright once wrote: Without doubt, beauty is to be found everywhere, but it takes an artist to see it and understand it."

My goal: To share with others the beauty that my eyes see, my heart feels, and my soul yearns to understand."

The focus of this plein air and studio course will be to discuss and develop methods of painting that will improve your painting skills and confidence. Each lesson will include discussions of the basics such as composition, colour mixing, values, edges and colour temperature. All classes will be started with a short demo by John. All students will be given personal attention based upon their needs and each day will be concluded with an honest and positive critique.
