Your host: Kegos Camp

about alGOma WILD art escapes

This "Arts in the Wild" venture is an undertaking by artists for artists:  a unique opportunity to share and develop your skills in the spectacular wilderness setting of the Algoma District.  Come and practise your art with us, among the rugged landscapes, pristine lakes, spectacular waterfalls, stately pines and brilliant colours that inspired the Group of Seven.  We are located on Chub and Jobamageeshig Lakes in the Mississagi Valley  on Highway 129 north of Thessalon, Ontario (60 miles west of Sault Ste. Marie).

In the spring and fall, we offer workshops which include expert instruction, comfortable cottage accommodation, and delicious meals for one affordable package price. See below for this year's scheduled workshops.

Throughout the season (May through September),  we also offer a perfect location for individual artists or painting groups looking for an inspirational plein air painting destination. As artists who make our home here, we can provide local knowledge and
logistical support  to help make your painting expedition as productive as possible. Our self-catering cottages are equipped with everything you need to provide your own meals, or meals are available locally if you prefer.

See below for more information on our cottages, meal options, and location.

Kegos Camp is a  cottage resort on th
e shores of  Chub Lake in the beautiful Misssissagi Valley, located in the heart of the famous Algoma District of Northern Ontario.   The picturesque log and pine cottages provide comfortable accommodation and lakeside relaxation for Algoma Wild Art Escape guests. From the time of your arrival at Kegos Camp and throughout your Art Escape experience, your host, Gillian Lloyd, is fully devoted to ensuring that your  stay is an unforgettable experience.

When you're not painting, there are canoes, kayaks, and a paddleboat available to explore the lake.  Several nearby hiking trails, some with scenic lookouts, provide the opportunity to discover the beautiful flora and fauna of the Mississagi Valley.

Our workshop packages include meals (see below) but for those visiting on their own or with a group of friends, an economical alternative is to prepare your own meals.  All of our cottages have fully equipped kitchens for those who choose this option.

Outpost Lodge

For the workshops that we host, or by arrangement for groups of artists, breakfasts are provided at Kegos Camp, and lunches are served either "al fresco" at your painting site or at the indoor location where we are working, depending on weather.

The Outpost Lodge, next door to Kegos Camp on Jobamageeshig Lake, provides the delicious dinners that are included in your Art Escape package.  Dinners are prepared by Outpost Lodge owners Jim and Ann Kehoe, and served family style in their delightful vintage dining room. Individuals or groups of artists may also dine at the Outpost Lodge, by reservation only.

An alternative meal location for individuals or groups of artists is "The Country Kitchen" at Wakomata Shores Resort, located a 15 minute drive from Kegos.  Order from a small but delicious menu; buffet may be available.
